Martijn de Waal is a professor (lector) at the Play & Civic Media Research Group, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and head of research of the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries. His research focuses on digital media and the public sphere. His most recent publications include The Platform Society: Public Values in a Connective World (co-authored with José van Dijck and Thomas Poell) and The Hackable City: Digital Media and Collaborative City Making in the Network Society.
